LifeSim

A modern cellular evolutionary simulator.

Description

LifeSim is an interactive evolutionary sandbox where you watch, or influence, digital organisms evolve over hundreds of generations. Cells compete for resources, reproduce with genetic variation, and adapt to their environment.

You can observe passively or intervene directly. Inspect or modify any cell's genetics, and directly control their behavior. Force mutations. Infect or cure populations. Endless simulations, in an infinite space.

How is it different?

  • Behaviors, interactions, & speciation are all emergent from simple rules, & never the same twice.
  • Immunity, predation, and reproduction compete as evolutionary pressures that spur continuous adaptation.
  • Viruses mutate independently inside hosts, & follow genetic lineages, forcing an evolutionary arms race.

In LifeSim, there are no predetermined outcomes. Watch real emergence arise from genetic variance and viral pressure.

Updates

July 15, 2025

Version 0.1.6.A

Guide evolution more efficiently with new analytical tools, improved visual changes to cells, & better code optimization.

Additions

  • Added the anayltics toolbar to the 'Details' panel above 'Population' section.
  • Track the state of the world over every minute using visual analytics bar charts.
  • New camera controls in the inspector, a coordinates display, and session data persistence.

Changes

  • Cells now have transparent membranes and opaque nuclei that are proportional to their lifecycle.
  • Split up several inspector panels, and added new subsection titles to a few components.
  • Viruses now persist, and are more prevalent when performance throttling is enabled.

Fixes

  • Expanded and reworked object cache for several components.
  • Resolved a bug that prevented virion from exporting & importing properly.

Planned

  • 'Group' function that will simultaneously allow multiple cells to be selected and manipulated.

Version 0.1.5.A

Several critical bug fixes, major backend improvements & overhaul, and a visual game session management framework.

Additions

  • Save or load session data from external files stored within the application persistent data.
  • Visual-based navigation system for saving, loading, duplicating, and deleting session files.

Changes

  • Improved performance in the sorter to reduce computational complexity for large sessions.
  • Rebuilt & optimized core interface infrastructure, utilizing component caching and storage.

Fixes

  • Addressed a bug where the ID for populated cells would default to '1'.
  • Identified a bug that prevented viruses from transferring target gene upon cloning.
  • The 'Drag' function now locks cells in at their current height in space.
